2021 Conference Agenda

The theme for the Development2030 2021 conference was:

‘The impact of COVID-19 on the Sustainable Development Goals – how has the global pandemic affected delivery of the SDGs leading up to 2030; and has it distracted us from the much bigger threat of climate change?’

Reports show that institutions are struggling to keep pace with an unparalleled global crisis and the economic consequences of COVID-19 could linger until 2030. Should more debt relief be given to less developed countries and how can their healthcare systems be made more resilient to future pandemics? Yet, in order to address the short term challenges of COVID-19, are we in danger of taking our global eye off the much larger threat posed by climate change?

15:15-16:15 Wednesday 17th November

This seminar will present some of the COVID-19 impact data now available and examine its implications for the civil society sector, in order to set the scene, for a discussion amongst large and small civil society organisations of what impact the pandemic has had on them as organisations and on the relevance of their missions and methods.

The panellists will also consider how the future should look for the continuance of various civil society organisations as achievers of developmental missions; whether their missions can, or should, be achieved in the immediate post-pandemic World by reverting to the earlier methods; and how best to meet the needs of the beneficiaries, and the expectations of their donors, in reaching developmental targets through more direct engagement in solutions.
